Kalmar supplied two quay cranes to leading Turkish port Evyapport, as part of a significant extension project to extend its container operation. The cranes helped the port increase its annual handling capacity from 400,000 to 750,000 TEU.
Evyapport is located close to two of Turkey's most industrialized provinces: Kocaeli and Istanbul. Although only eight years old, the port has rapidly become one of Turkey's leading terminals. To further improve its services and increase its capacity, Evyapport invested over USD 80 million into a significant extension plan that involved establishing new transport connections and acquiring new equipment, including two Kalmar quay cranes.
The cranes began operating in September 2011 and helped Evyapport speed up its operations through shorter ship turnaround times and increased handling capacity. Their optimized hoisting speeds deliver accuracy and efficiency with minimized energy consumption. Because they operate without hydraulics, they are also reliable, safe, and easy to maintain. Evyapport's fleet also includes Kalmar RTGs, reachstackers, empty container handlers, and forklifts.
The Kalmar quay cranes helped Evyapport achieve its target of increasing annual handling capacity from 400,000 TEU to 750,000 TEU by 2013. "We invested in these quay cranes in order to increase our business volume for high-capacity vessels from line agencies that operate on the time-equals-money principle, and to make maximum and efficient use of our facilities," says Barış Yerge, Evyapport's Sales and Marketing Manager.
