Super Gloria makes reachstacker history

Kalmar delivered the world’s biggest reachstacker – known as Super Gloria – for leading German steel technology company Egon Evertz KG. This engineering landmark, designed and built in just 12 months, handles ‘mega’ steel slabs weighing 50 tons.

The challenge

The Evertz Group’s continuous improvement of techniques, procedures and parts for steel production has made it an industry leader. Egon Evertz KG helps steel factories with innovative ideas to improve quality and cut costs. Kalmar devised a reachstacker solution that would meet the company’s increasing requirement to handle heavier loads, effectively becoming the world’s biggest tool handler. The Super Gloria reachstacker will handle the new 50-tonnes ‘mega’ steel slabs, measuring 8.8 ft wide, 39 ft long and 13.8" thick.

The solution

The DRG650-92A5XS reachstacker is the largest reachstacker in our hugely successful Gloria range, and was custom-designed to meet the customer’s unique handling needs. This has resulted in an impressive lift capacity of 65 tonnes at 13 ft load center in dynamic mode (drive) or 65 tonnes at 16.4 ft load center in static mode (non driving). The reachstacker features an electric lift magnet for handling slabs in cold conditions and a hydraulic grab for hot conditions (up to 1470 °C). The high lifting capacity has been augmented with a specially raised cab to ensure excellent visibility, while a wheelbase of 30 ft provides maximum stability.

The results

The project was completed in just 12 months. “Kalmar was the only company that could meet our specifications and timeframe. We’ve been experiencing consistent growth, and as steel slabs increase in size we needed an innovative solution to handle these huge loads reliably and safely. We’re impressed with how Kalmar responded to our brief and proud to have the world’s biggest reachstacker in our fleet,” says Karl-Heinz Mößner from Egon Evertz.
