Kalmar in brief

Kalmar provides cargo-handling solutions and services to ports, terminals, distribution centers and heavy industry. We are the industry forerunner in terminal automation and energy-efficient container handling; one out of every four container moves around the globe is handled by a Kalmar solution. We improve the efficiency of every move through our extensive product portfolio, global service network, and solutions for seamless integration of terminal processes. 

A global business with the industry’s widest portfolio

Our offering consists of cargo handling equipment, automation, software and services. The Kalmar equipment portfolio includes straddle and shuttle carriers, terminal tractors, yard cranes, ship-to-shore cranes, reachstackers, empty container handlers and forklift trucks. Navis terminal operating systems (TOS), Bromma spreaders and Siwertell bulk handling systems are provided as part of the Kalmar business area.

At the end of 2016, Kalmar had more than 5,700 employees in 30 countries, of which the largest were the United States, Malaysia, Sweden, China, Finland, Poland, Spain, India and the Netherlands.

The Kalmar business area is divided into the Automation and Projects, Mobile Equipment, Services, Navis and Bromma divisions which are supported by common business support functions, including Offering Development, Finance, Marketing and Communications, and Human Resources. The front line sales and services are supported by the regional organisations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Asia-Pacific and the Americas. Kalmar's assembly units are located in China, India, Malaysia, Poland, Sweden and the United States. Kalmar has research and development units worldwide and a Technology and Competence Center in Tampere, Finland. Kalmar is headed by Antti Kaunonen, the company’s president.

Kalmar is part of Cargotec. Cargotec's sales totaled approximately EUR 3.5 billion in 2016 and it employs over 11,000 people. Cargotec's class B shares are quoted on Nasdaq Helsinki Ltd under the symbol CGCBV.
